Well Halloween is this month so I thought something a little scary would be fun. I don't know how scary this one is but it is pretty fun. This time you will start with a cone primitive and use the SDS tools to make it into a Scooby Doo type ghost. Okay first off lets start with a primitive cone like so.
Next, slide the complexity slider all the way down so it looks like a pyramid. Then convert it to a polygon mesh.
Okay, now that it is a polygon mesh, select the bottom face of the cone and start extruding it down like so.
Once you have the face extruded switch to edge mode (see the tools selected at the left). With all of the edges of the base selected hold down the command key (Mac) Option key (Win), to constrain the movement of the edges, and pull them all out at the same time.
Do the extrusion 4 more times so you end up with something like this.
Now you will need to rotate the extruded pyrimid so that the sides are parallel with the grid lines. Do this from the top view.
Select the second edge and then Control Click (Mac) Right Click (two button mouse) to revial the drop down menu for the edge mode. Select the Loop Select option. This will select all the edges around the shape. Once the edges are selected ust the move tool in edge mode and hold down the Control key to stretch out this edge.
Okay, now do the same to the edges above it. Hold down the Control key and the edges will spread out at the same time.
Now in face mode use the extrude tool to extrude the two side face out. Hint: If you are haveing trouble extruding faces out to the right direction make sure you have the right grid set as active. If you are not sure try hiting the X, Y and Z keys before you move a peice of geometry.
Next, in point mode, select the two botom points and move them in twards each other. Move the two points at the center towards each other too.
Go ahead and extrude the other side.
Move the points in toward each other like you did on the first side.
Select the bottom edge of the wing like extrusions and push them back towards the base of the pyrimid.
Now in face mode select the two faces you extruded out and use the bevel tool to bevel them just a bit.
Now extrude all of the faces inward, there is a new one in between the two you first extruded.
Make sure that you correct the edge that moved above the other middle edge.
It should look like this.
Okay, now select all the faces that make up the bottom and control click (mac) right click (two button mouse) and select Dessolve. This joins the faces into one face.
Now Control click (Mac) Right click (two button mouse) and select Delete. This will make a clean deletion of the bottom of the ghost.
Now let's add the subdivision surfaces to our model.
Slide the complexity slider to about 2.
In face mode grab the tips of the wing thingies and move them up some more.
Let's add a new edge that we can pull up to make the wing thingies bend a little more. Use the cut tool and click on the edge on one side and the click on the edge on the other. That gives you a new edge to play with.
Select the new edge and pull it up a little to give a little more bend to the wing thingie. In this shot I have also increased the complexity a little.
To make the head a little bigger grab all of the faces and move them up.
Do your loop select move again to round out the head some.
In point mode select the top point of the head and move it way back to the cap point looks like it is setting back on the head a bit.
Now your model should look something like this.
